About the Role

We are looking for an experienced Category Manager to join a busy Procurement function of a MOD body. This is an exciting opportunity to shape procurement strategies and ensure efficient supplier management for a key client. As a Category Manager, you will balance short and long-term objectives to meet business strategy and deliver significant cost savings.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and implement category strategies to meet business goals and efficiencies.
• Lead the execution of procurement processes, including strategic sourcing, contract negotiation, and supplier selection.
• Manage supplier relationships, ensuring compliance with KPIs and SLAs.
• Drive operational efficiency and deliver on key supply chain targets.
• Monitor supplier performance and secure commercial compensation for non-compliance.
• Conduct risk identification and mitigation to ensure smooth operations.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to manage contracts and ensure competitive costs throughout the lifecycle.

Essential Skills & Experience

• Strong understanding of category management methodologies and processes.
• Experience in contract negotiation and managing lower-value procurements.
• Expertise in Supplier Relationship Management, including segmentation and risk management.
• Ability to develop cost-effective category solutions and business models.
• Experience with T&Cs, RFx processes, and contract handover procedures.

Desirable

• Public sector experience.
• CIPS certification.
• Defence or nuclear sector background.
