As we celebrate Pride Month 2023 (1st – 30th June 2023), it’s essential for businesses to reflect upon the importance of creating an inclusive and diverse workplace environment. In this blog, we’ll explore the significance of adopting inclusive recruitment practices and fostering an inclusive culture within companies. By doing so, organisations can reap numerous benefits, not only for their employees but also for their overall success, reputation, and stakeholder relationships.
According to the 2021 census, there are more than 1.3 million people in England and Wales that identify as LGB (lesbian, gay or bisexual) and 262,000 people responded saying that their gender identity was different from their sex registered at birth (those who are placed under the umbrella term; Trans) (Inclusive Employers, 2023).
The LGBTQ+ community face many inequalities. For example, LGBTQ+ employees are more likely to experience workplace conflict and harassment with 40% of LGB+ workers and 55% of trans workers reporting such experiences (CIPD, 2021).
